Yoseph Taher defends Ramadhan Cup title
Jakarta (MidLand) – Central Kalimantan chess player International Master (IM) Yoseph Theolifus Taher has retained the open class title of the PB PERCASI 2024 Ramadhan Cup tournament.
Yoseph took the championship title through a long journey after nine rounds of matches with Aditya Bagus Arfan equal to 7.5 points. In four rounds of tiebreakers, Yoseph clinched the title after collecting 6.25 points more than Aditya.
“The points I got until the end were only seven and a half and I’m grateful to be in first place,” Yoseph Theolifus Taher told reporters in Jakarta on Sunday.
“In this open round, there are many young people who already own the technology, so winning is quite difficult,” said Yoseph, who now has 2479 points in the FIDE ranking.
The president of this tournament committee, Rikardo, hopes that the emergence of great Indonesian chess players will emerge.
Rikardo said chess players need to prepare for a series of PB PERCASI tournaments in the next calendar year.
“The preparations from start to finish went well, we hope these champions will be even better in the future, because we will organize many big tournaments,” Rikardo said.
PB PERCASI general secretary Hendry Hendratno said the quality of the PB PERCASI Ramadhan Cup tournament, which has been running for 22 years, has not diminished.

Hendry explained that in addition to being a place to showcase young chess players, this tournament is also a place for chess players to meet.
“This Ramadan Cup tournament is not really an achievement, it simply fills the holy day of Ramadan, traditionally organized by PB Percasi,” Hendry said.
