Wushu won six gold medals on the second day

Jakarta (MidLand) – The second day of competitions in wushu sport of Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024 at GOR Disporasu, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on Friday (13/9) starting from 09:00 WIB will compete for six gold medals.

The six gold medals will be contested for the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy for Men and Women + Wing Chun Butterfly Sword, the Taolu Qiangshu for Men and Women and the Taolu Gunshu for Men and Women.

The first day was dedicated to the Wing Chun wooden dummy, where East Java athletes Michael Arroll Nestor Jennings (men) and Jessie Djalimin (women) managed to become the best with scores of 9,280 and 9,246 respectively.

Both just need to perform consistently in the Wing Chun Butterfly Sword routine that will be competed on the second day, to win the gold medal.

In the men’s taolu qiangshu competition, East Java athlete Muhammad Daffa Golden Boy will be one of the favorites. Daffa, who won the men’s Changquan silver medal on the first day, will compete with strong athletes such as Jovan from North Sumatra and Keane McLaren Lee from DKI Jakarta.

Meanwhile, in the women’s qiangshu event, 20th Papua PON gold medalist Nandira Mauriskha of DKI Jakarta will be a tough opponent for athletes from other provinces.

In the men’s gunshu event, DKI Jakarta athlete Edgar Xavier Marvelo is expected to compete closely with Seraf Naro Siregar from East Java. On the first day, the two athletes from the national team won medals, gold and bronze respectively in the men’s changquan routine.

Eugenia Diva Widodo of DKI Jakarta will be the seed in the women’s gunshu event. Eugenia, who won a gold medal on the first day in the women’s changquan event, will face stiff resistance from other strong athletes, such as Jennifer Tjahyadi of East Java and Ananda Sri Mardiana of Jambi.

The PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra Wushu Sport was held from September 12th to 15th. A total of 29 gold, 29 silver and 40 bronze medals were up for grabs in the 29 events held.
