Jakarta (MidLand) – The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has issued a circular to ensure waste management by creating a homecoming route with minimal waste along the homecoming route and during Eid 2024.
Quoted from circular letter number 5 of 2024 regarding waste control for Idul Fitri 1445 Hijriah in Jakarta, on Tuesday, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya asked regional heads to encourage, facilitate and supervise waste management during the implementation of low waste homecoming, particularly during homecoming routes and buffer areas, as well as during Eid.
“Governors, regents and mayors carry out waste management in places such as bus terminals, train stations, seaports, ferry ports and airports in their areas and ensure that waste management conditions work well and promote minimal waste for travelers “, said the Minister of the Environment. and Forestry published on March 28, 2024.
In addition to this, to maintain minimum waste conditions and anticipate an increase in the amount of waste generated, the circular calls for providing segregated waste storage facilities.
In particular for food waste, plastic packaging waste, mask waste and unusable or residual waste at staging points, as well as the transport and treatment of waste appropriate to the type and quantity of waste generated.
In addition to this, to prevent difficulties for travellers, especially due to queues at rest areas, the party has also launched an appeal for waste collection to be carried out by going around and setting up special tents for the separate waste collection stations.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry also called for the provision of command posts and the formation of special task forces to manage waste from population centers in districts/cities seven days before and after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
It is also recommended that the field unit of the Regional Equipment Organization (OPD) responsible for environmental affairs should collect the waste which is sorted and transported in collaboration with related parties.
“To reduce the amount of waste during Eid al-Fitr prayers, there are several things you can do, including bringing prayer equipment from home and using prayer mats that can be reused and taken home after having completed the Eid al-Fitr prayers,” he said. in the appeal.
Furthermore, it is recommended to avoid bringing food or drinks to the place of prayer.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has also requested that waste data be entered into the database of the National Waste Management Information System of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Apart from this, education is also conducted on the implementation of waste reduction through various channels, including social media.
