Winning the gold medal in women’s basketball, the United States is the overall champion at the Paris Olympics
Jakarta (MidLand) – The United States fought hard to narrowly defeat France 67-66 in the women’s basketball final of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Sunday night, which is also the final game of the Paris Olympics that will end early Monday morning.
This is the eighth consecutive Olympic medal that the United States has won in women’s basketball. This victory over France also saw the U.S. women’s team record impressive statistics, winning 61 Olympic games.
A’ja Wilson led the United States with 21 points, her most in the game. The win brings the United States to a total of ten Olympic champions in women’s basketball.
This is also the 40th and final gold medal the United States will win at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This latest gold medal has established the United States as the overall champion because, even though they both won 40 gold medals with China, they were superior in winning silver medals and bronze medals.
The United States collected 44 silver medals and 42 bronze medals, while China collected 27 silver medals and 24 bronze medals.

The women’s basketball final at the Paris Olympics was thrilling, close and tense, even in the final quarter.
With 3 minutes and 45 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Gabby Williams put France up 55-55, but the United States responded through Breanna Stewart to put her team ahead 56-55.
The U.S. lead increased to 58-55 after A’ja Wilson hit a two-point shot.
Williams revived France’s hopes after allowing two free throws following a Jackie Young foul to keep France at 58-57. However, Kelsey Plum’s two free throws put the United States up 60-57 with 2 minutes left.
Once again, Williams pulled France behind 59-60 with 1:33 left. But once again, the United States responded to bring it back to 62-59 after Breanna Stewart’s assist gave Kahleah Copper two points.
A free throw by A’ja Wilson brought the United States to 63-59. But two free throw points by Marine Johannes kept France close again at 63-61.
After Plum made two free throws to make it 65-61, Williams hit a three-pointer to bring France to 64-65.
France tried to break it by drawing a foul that opened the way for Copper to score two points on two free throws, at 67-64.
With three seconds left, Williams brought France closer again to 67-66. Williams then hit a three-pointer but the ball was gone a split second after the buzzer sounded, so it didn’t change the score to 67-66 for the United States.
