The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended several preventative measures that can be implemented in areas where Nipah virus (NiV) outbreaks have been found, such as:

1. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
2. Avoid contact with sick bats or pigs
3. Avoid areas where bats often roost
4. Avoid eating or drinking products that may be contaminated by bats
5. Avoid contact with blood or body fluids of people known to be infected with NiV.

In addition to preventive measures, more in-depth research on NiV should be sought, starting with scientists, researchers and at-risk communities, according to the CDC. More research into the ecology of fruit bats is needed to understand where they live and how they can spread viruses to other animals and humans.

Ultimately, there is a need to evaluate new technologies or methods that play a role in minimizing the spread of viruses in bat populations.
