What is DALL-E 3 launched by OpenAI? Here’s how it works
TIME.CO, Jakarta – OpenAI to announce GIVE HER third version Wednesday 20 September 2023. FROM-E 3 will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users next October via Application Programming Interface (API) software.
“This is a really cool DALL-E 3: https://openai.com/dall-e-3. “It will be available to all ChatGPT+ users in the coming weeks,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote in a tweet on the X (formerly Twitter) account, Thursday, September 21, 2023.
So what is DALL-E 3?
Getting to know DALL-E 3
DALL-E 3 is a tool or platform equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) system to convert text commands into images (text-to-image). Users can type or say via voice prompts to convert text to images in the ChatGPT conversation column.
“DaLL-E 3 can translate various requests into accurate and detailed images,” an OpenAI representative said, quoted by Reuters, Thursday, September 21, 2023.
OpenAI says the latest version of DALL-E has increased security protections, such as limiting its ability to produce adult, violent or hateful content.
The technology also has a prevention system to reject requests for images of public figures based on their names or request stylized images of living artists.
How DALL-E 3 works
In a report by The Verge, principal investigator and DALL-E team leader Aditya Ramesh, in a demo, asked ChatGPT to create a logo for a ramen restaurant in a mountainous area. ChatGPT then writes a longer response and DALL-E provides four options.
“Connecting DALL-E 3 with this chatbot enables more people to produce AI-based artwork because they can understand the commands given,” Aditya said.
Meanwhile, through its official website, OpenAI shows examples of differences between images created by DALL-E 2 and DALL-E 3.

They wrote the order, “an expressive oil painting depicting a basketball player putting the ball in the basket and what appears to be an exploding nebula.” And you can see that the images produced by DALL-E 3 are more attractive, richer in color and with more proportional composition.
History of DALL-E
DALL-E was first presented to the public in January 2021. The platform created by OpenAI was present before other visual arts content generation tools, such as those from Stability AI and Midjourney.
Then, in 2022, OpenAI opened a trial waitlist for DALL-E 2 users. However, the platform has received criticism regarding explicit photorealistic images and distorted photos. Until finally the company eliminated the waiting list and opened DALL-E to the public in September last year.
The latest version of DALL-E or DALL-E 3 is claimed to have a multi-layered security system. This was stated by OpenAI policy researcher Sandhini Agarwal. He believes that the company has prepared a technological model that continues to improve and is increasingly perfect.
To avoid legal action, OpenAI also provides a special form to report the misuse of artists’ artworks on its official website. Apart from that, the company also said that the latest version of DALL-E will be able to automatically block images that look similar to other people’s or artists’ work.
The artists had previously sued DALL-E competitors Stability AI and Midjourney, along with the site DeviantArt, for allegedly using their copyrighted work to train a text-to-image model in January 2023.
