West Sumatra MUI urges world leaders to continue calling for Palestinian independence

Bukittinggi (MidLand) – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of West Sumatra (Sumbar) province continues to encourage Muslim leaders around the world, including Indonesia, to continue calling for Palestinian independence as a sovereign state.

“The people who lead Muslim communities around the world must continue to demand Palestinian independence from Israeli colonial rule,” MUI president for West Sumatra province Gusrizal Gazahar said in Bukittinggi on Wednesday.

This was conveyed by the West Sumatra MUI President in the context of the momentum of the Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah which is celebrated by Muslims around the world, including Gaza, Palestine.

Unfortunately, children, women and society at large in Palestine cannot feel and celebrate the momentum of Eid al-Fitr like in Indonesia due to the genocide and aggression perpetrated by Israel.

“The question is: do we have the courage to sit comfortably while our brothers in Palestine wallow in blood and tears,” he said.

According to him, Muslims around the world, including the Minang region, have moved and acted to the limit of their capabilities. For example, this comes in the form of collecting donations, sending humanitarian aid, sending logistics and medicines, and so on.

However, Gusrizal is of the opinion that if Muslim leaders around the world do not balance community efforts with foreign policy or diplomacy, it will be difficult to achieve complete Palestinian independence.

“So what needs to be maximized now are the people to whom the people have entrusted the leadership of the country,” he said.

On that occasion, the MUI president also touched on the significance of Eid which must be implemented by the community, especially the Muslim one, after the end of Ramadan 1445 Hijriah.

“The meaning of Eid cannot be separated from fasting. Therefore, Eid is an impetus to realize the values we seek during Ramadan,” he said.
