Bandung (MidLand) – West Java Acting Governor (PJ) Bey Triadi Machmudin has confirmed that the dead 2024 election officials have received compensation from the General Election Commission (KPU).
According to him, the hard work of election officials, including the Vote Organizing Group (KPPS) and witnesses, who carried out the 2024 elections smoothly, must be appreciated and can even be called a hero of democracy.
“The KPU will provide compensation. We appreciate their work. It is no exaggeration to call them heroes of democracy, because they worked hard to create safe, fair and peaceful elections,” Bey said in Bandung on Monday.

Bey said his group has so far received information regarding six KPPS officers, one PPS and two dead and ill witnesses, although his group does not yet know the exact number of dead officers.
“The cause was a heart attack, a history of chest pain, there was also diabetes. In fact, there was a history of illness, there was also a stroke,” he said.
Bey said the West Java provincial government, together with the KPU, tried to anticipate officer casualties during the 2024 elections by preparing health facilities.
“We actually anticipated this by preparing the facilities and health workers,” he said.
Six KPPS officers in West Java were recorded to have died during voting and vote counting for the 2024 elections on February 14-15.

The six KPPS officers who died were spread across different districts and cities, namely two people in Garut Regency, one person in Sukabumi Regency, one person in Tasikmalaya and two people in Bogor Regency. They would die from exhaustion while on duty.
“Most of them are between the ages of 35 and 45. Over 55, about two people,” Bey said.
