Village leaders play an important role in overcoming disasters in South Jakarta

Jakarta (MidLand) – The South Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said the village head plays an important role and is in command to deal with disasters in his area to ensure the safety of residents.

“We leave everything to the sub-district, in this case to the head of the sub-district as disaster commander,” South Jakarta BPBD platoon commander Muhammad Nur said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.

This, Nur said, is stated in the governor’s decree number 1245 of 2020 regarding the designation of village heads as responsible for disaster management in village areas.

One of the tasks of subdistrict leaders in disaster mitigation is to ensure that their area has prepared evacuation sites in case of disasters such as floods and fires.

Therefore, according to him, it is very important for subdistricts to have facilities and infrastructure ranging from facilities, environmental data collection to harnessing the potential of local residents.

“Because the disaster management team sometimes takes time to move from the command post to the disaster site, which sometimes causes traffic jams, broken roads and so on,” he said.

The South Jakarta BPBD stressed that, together with the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), it will continue to intensify education and training programs for the general public and school children.

It is hoped that the public will have sufficient knowledge and experience regarding disaster resistant materials.

Regarding flood response, the BPBD will monitor and coordinate with sub-district officials, RT, RW and the Community Early Warning Forum (FKDM).

If there are residents requiring evacuation or assistance, the DKI BPBD will coordinate with the SKPD/UKPD related to disasters such as Gulkarmat Service, Water Resources Sub-Department (SDA) and volunteers.

The next step, that is, after the flood. If there are refugees, establish refugee places and coordinate with relevant social services to meet food needs.

“We, together with the Gulkarmat, the Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management Service (PPSU) and the residents, cleaned up after the flood,” he said.

Regarding the floods in South Jakarta (Jaksel), BPBD said that the floods affecting four neighborhood units (RTs) in the sub-districts of Pejaten Timur and Rawajati have gradually reduced to just 1.4 metres, compared to 2.6 meters on Saturday (25/09). 5).

The flooding occurred in four RTs in Pejaten Timur and Rawajati sub-districts occurred due to the overflowing of the Ciliwung River.
