Today’s weather forecast: coastal flooding, 4m waves and moderate rain in Medan

Moderate rain is expected in Medan. Light rain is likely in Serang, Central Jakarta, Samarinda, Pangkal Pinang, Ambon, Jayapura and Padang.

The air temperature ranges from 18 to 34 degrees Celsius with the lowest temperature in Bandung and the highest in Semarang, Surabaya, Makassar and Manado.

Forecast based on impact of heavy rains with alert status in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan and Papua. There are no provinces on alert.

BMKG also issued an early warning of high waves that could potentially occur in several water areas on August 7-8, 2023.

The dominant wind pattern in the northern part of Indonesia is from the southwest with wind speeds ranging from 6 to 28 knots. While in the southern part of Indonesia the dominant movement is from east to southeast with wind speeds ranging from 8 to 28 knots.

“The highest wind speeds were observed in Kep. Halmahera waters, Raja Ampat waters, Arafuru Sea and Kep. Kai – Kep. Aru,” the BMKG said.

Very high waves in the range of 2.5-4 meters are likely to occur in waters north of Sabang, Western Aceh – Kep waters. Mentawai, waters from P. Enggano – Bengkulu, western waters of Lampung, Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, western and southern Sunda Straits, southern waters of Java to Sumbawa Island, Bali Strait – Lombok – Alas – southern part of Sape, Southern Indian Ocean – NTT, southern waters of the islands. Sermata – Kep. Tanimbar, Arafuru Sea and North Pacific Ocean Halmahera – West Papua, West Sumba Strait, South Indian Ocean Banten – Sumba, East Banda Sea Southeast Sulawesi, North Pacific Ocean Jayapura and Central and West Arafuru Sea.
