TikTok plans to separate the algorithm code specifically for the United States
Jakarta (MidLand) – TikTok reportedly plans to separate the algorithm code specifically for its users in the United States, so that later the platform system for that region can be independent.
A report from GSM Arena on Friday (31/5) claimed that the plan to separate the algorithm code had actually been planned since 2023. First reported by Reuters, the report showed that there were hundreds of engineers from TikTok and TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance. who were ready to start separating millions of lines of programming code.
The goal of the project was to create a programming code base separate and independent from the system used by Douyin, TikTok’s Chinese sister platform. The complexity of the task may take more than a year to complete.

Each line of TikTok code must be examined to determine whether it can be included in US programming code, according to legal requirements. Once the project is complete, TikTok US will run and maintain its recommendation algorithm independently and will not be connected to TikTok applications in other regions.
However, the company acknowledges that TikTok’s US platform may not be able to provide the same level of performance as it currently still relies on ByteDance engineers in China to update and maintain the code base to maximize user engagement at the inside the app.
It is possible that this will prevent a ban on TikTok in the United States, where the law will be passed at the end of April 2024.
As is known in the US, TikTok is facing a ban crisis after the government passed the national security package signed into law by President Joe Biden.
The new regulations effectively give TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, an ultimatum to sell TikTok’s US operations to a local company within the next nine months. Otherwise the United States could ban the platform.
