TikTok is trying to overcome the problems that occur with famous accounts

Jakarta (MidLand) – TikTok said its security team is trying to resolve issues with known accounts on its video platform, including accounts belonging to Paris Hilton, CNN and Sony.

The owners of the video app provided no information on the nature of the attack or the company’s mitigation techniques, saying only that they had taken steps to stop the attack and prevent something similar from happening in the future.

According to the post TechCrunch on Tuesday (6/4) a malicious attack appeared to be involved, as previously reported by Semafor and Forbes malware sent via TikTok direct messages and may impact the account holder’s ability to access their TikTok profile.

The goal of hackers targeting popular TikTok accounts remains unclear as none of the affected accounts have started posting content regarding the issue.

According to Semafor, CNN’s account was hacked last week, so it had to be deleted for several days.

The news organization said it has worked with TikTok to implement additional measures to ensure accounts remain safe in the future, including during the United States (US) presidential election.

When asked for a response, TikTok did not provide a detailed explanation of the nature of the attack or its countermeasures to avoid “informing” potential criminals.

“Our security team is aware of a potential exploit targeting a number of high-profile accounts,” a company spokesperson said.

“We have taken steps to stop this attack and prevent it from occurring in the future. We are working directly with affected account owners to restore access if necessary,” it added.

The attacks on high-profile accounts come at a time when TikTok’s influence in the United States is being questioned.

Citing national security concerns, U.S. President Joe Biden in April signed legislation that would force TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or be banned from operating in the United States.

If ByteDance doesn’t sell it, it will be illegal for app stores to distribute TikTok when the law goes into effect.

TikTok has filed a lawsuit against the US government over the law, which will keep the case stalled in court for months.
