This husband and wife couple were inaugurated together as professors of UGM, the content of their speech was romantic

MidLand, Jakarta – Two lovers of academia were inaugurated as professors at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Muslikhin Hidayat, 50, has been appointed professor of Systems Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering. His wife Ria Milati, 51, is also a professor of food technologies and agricultural products at the Faculty of Agricultural Technologies.

They received the highest academic level in the Senate Hall of the central building of the UGM. Quoted from UGM’s official website on Tuesday, the couple, who already have three children, were originally classmates in UGM’s undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum.

After graduating, the two teamed up to try to fill a vacant teaching position at the famous Yogyakarta campus. Each joined the faculty he now supervises. “Coincidentally, we were both studying for doctorates in Sweden. “We will both go back to college together,” Ria said.

According to Muslikhin, the professor’s inauguration procession was initially not planned at the same time. The man from Jepara, Central Java, applied for the post of professor at the end of 2021. Meanwhile, his wife only applied for this post at the beginning of 2023. In fact, the decision letters (SK) which confirm their inauguration were issued almost at the same time.

“We never set goals, but just flow,” Muslikhin said. “We finally decided on the inauguration together. I am grateful that the university facilitated this.”

Muslikhin said they finally obtained the title of professors after dedicating themselves as educators for almost 27 years. Ria, who has just become a teacher, has the principle of always doing things with sincerity, without expecting anything too much. She admitted that she had always done her best.
