The world’s largest deinonychosaurus tracks have been found in Fujian, China

This is the largest deinonychosaurus track found in China and beyond.

Beijing (MidLand) – Scientists have discovered large two-toed footprints in Lincheng, east China’s Fujian Province, that belonged to a Deinonychosaurus, a team of scientists said on Monday (6/5).

At least eight types of dinosaur tracks have been discovered over the years at the Longxiang track site by scientists and experts from China University of Geosciences (CUG) and Yingliang Stone Natural History Museum, 12 of which are dinosaur tracks. didactic deinonychosaurs divided into two morphologies.

Of the 12 two-toed fossil tracks, five are large tracks with an average length of 36.4 centimeters and a width of 16.9 centimeters, prompting the researchers to establish a new dinosaur taxon, namely Fujianipus yingliangi. Based on the relative proportions of the toes, Fujianipus was probably a troodontid.

“This is the largest deinonychosaurus trace found in China and elsewhere,” said young CUG professor Xing Lida

Based on the dimensions of the tracks, it is estimated that the Fujianipus dinosaur was at least 5 meters long, with a height of almost 2 meters at the hips.

“The Longxiang track site is the best-preserved, largest and most diverse late Cretaceous dinosaur track site discovered to date in China,” said Yingliang Stone Natural History Museum curator Niu Kecheng.

The discovery of Fujianipus yingliangi greatly expands the size range of deinonychosaur tracks, which is very important for the study of Late Cretaceous dinosaurs in China, Niu added.

These results were recently published in the international journal iScience.
