Jakarta (MidLand) – Vice President of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Lestari Moerdijat reminded that coherent efforts to overcome and prevent stunting in the country require strong commitment so that national human resources (HR) development goals can be achieved.

He then cited a statement by Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, who said last month that the reason for the minimal reduction in the prevalence of stunting was because the appropriate implementation model had not been found to a number of programs that had been implemented. as well as the increase in the number of new growth-retarded children.
Where, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia decreased by only 0.1%, from 21.6% in 2022 to 21.5% in 2023.
For this reason, Rerie questioned the planning of Indonesia’s stunting reduction program, as well as the seriousness of stakeholders in implementing the program.
“A long-term planned program still doesn’t have the right method to implement it,” he said.

According to him, when planning a stunting reduction program in Indonesia one should choose from a number of suitable implementation methods based on the survey conducted.
Because, he said, the growing number of new stunting patients also shows that the country’s management of the problem is not complete.
He also hopes that there will be very significant improvements in reducing the prevalence of stunting in the country because the quality of health of each child in the nation truly determines the resilience and competitiveness of the next generation as part of the efforts to create a superior nation.
