The PPPA Ministry oversees the handling of sexual assault cases on campus

Jakarta (MidLand) – The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) is overseeing the handling of a case of alleged sexual assault against a female student in a university setting.

“We express our concern about the incident of sexual violence which caused trauma to the victim. Therefore, we support law enforcement agencies to immediately thoroughly investigate the case and impose sanctions on the perpetrator in accordance with laws and regulations applicable,” the MP said. for the protection of rights, PPPA Minister Ratna Susianawati said in a statement on Friday.

His party strongly condemns this case.

Ratna Susianawati said that basically violence, no matter how small and affecting anyone, cannot be tolerated, especially because criminal acts of sexual violence are very clearly and firmly regulated in Law Number 12 of 2022 on Criminal Acts of Violence sexual (TPKS).

In fact, to prevent violence in higher education, the Ministry of Education and Culture has also issued Regulation number 30 of 2021 of the Minister of Education, Research and Technology relating to the prevention and management of sexual violence (PPKS ) in higher education.

Sexual assault against a student with the initials HN (19) was previously suspected, causing the victim to experience trauma and fear of taking part in the learning process on campus.

The alleged perpetrator is also a student of Udayana University with initials JS. The victim met the offender on May 24, 2023 via the social media site Instagram.

The sexual violence against the victim apparently occurred twice. The first incident occurred in the guesthouse owned by the alleged perpetrator, the second in the house rented by the victim.
