The Ministry of Education and Culture aims to have 193,000 students participate in the MBKM program next year
MidLand, Jakarta – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) aims for 193 thousand student will take part in the Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM). The program, activated since 2020, aims to encourage students to acquire various knowledge and skills that can be used to enter the world of work.
“In 2024, we aim to engage around 193,000 students,” said Independent Campus Center (PPKM) CEO Gugup Kismono, quoted by the UGM website, Saturday, December 30, 2023.
The Ministry of Education and Culture, through the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, is collaborating with Gadjah Mada University or UGM to manage the learning program of independent campuses through type II self-management.
During 2023, more than 134 thousand students from different universities were involved in 8 MBKM programs including certified internships, national and international student exchanges, educational campuses and entrepreneurship programs.
Gugup said his party will collaborate with numerous partners, including renowned universities abroad for student exchange programs and various companies for certified work placement activities. “Next year we want more net and renowned universities from around the world are coming together,” he said.
Director of Learning and Student Affairs, Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education and Culture, Sri Suning Kusumawardani, appreciated PPKM for making the MBKM program a success since 2020. In addition to increasing student numbers and international exposure, PPKM has engaged many corporate partners and will also receive support from the President.

“Later there will be an MBKM presidential instruction for all ministries and state-owned enterprises to support this program and this will definitely be a big step by the state for this program,” Suning said.
Suning said the MBKM program will also involve many universities in various regions, thereby increasing students’ access to student exchange activities with large and renowned universities. “We want universities outside Java and far away to be able to access better education with this program,” she said.
UGM Chancellor Ova Emilia appreciated the Ministry of Education and Culture for trusting her campus to oversee the MBKM program. “For the past two years we have been tasked with implementing programs for higher quality education. “We hope we can accelerate the results of this MBKM program,” she said.
