The Ministry of Communications and Information uses “SMS blast” as a means of information on the Mount Ruang eruption
Jakarta (MidLand) – The Ministry of Communications and Information (Kemenkominfo) uses the service SMS explosion collaboration with cellular operators as a means of disaster information for local communities affected by the eruption of Mount Ruang, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut).
The Director General of Postal and Information Control (Dirjen PPI) of the Ministry of Communications and Information, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, said that the source of information used by the Ministry of Communications and Information in SMS Blast refers to the monitoring results of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).
“The specific disaster information related to Mount Ruang comes from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The Ministry of Communications and Information has collaborated with PVMBG and Kominfo will send SMS explosion “to the affected areas in the Gunung Ruang area based on information from PVMBG,” Wayan told MidLand on Friday.

SMS explosion that becomes one of the forms early warning system to the community that owns a device when there is a change in the status of a disaster in the area where it lives.
The hope is that through SMS Blast, people affected by the Mount Ruang eruption can get the latest information and prepare to adapt to the changes in the situation and conditions that are occurring.
In addition to providing information to affected communities, the Ministry of Communication and Information is also intensively monitoring to secure telecommunications infrastructure in areas affected by the Mount Ruang eruption to ensure that communication can continue.

“The Ministry of Communications and Information has a Telecommunications Monitoring Center that operates 24 hours a day non-stop to monitor telecommunications services throughout Indonesia, including areas affected by the eruption,” Wayan said.
Since the eruption of Mount Ruang on Tuesday (30/4), the Ministry of Communications and Information noted that initially seven telecommunications infrastructures existed in the form of: Transceiver base station (BTS) which is experiencing operational problems.
The affected BTS operations take place on Tagulandang Island, near the site of the Mount Ruang eruption. Direct coordination has been carried out with mobile operators to follow up on this issue.

“There are currently two BTSs left that are still in condition below “which are located in Barangka Pehe village and Balehumara village, Tagulandang district, which covers 10.5% of the total BTS in the district,” Wayan said.
The remaining BTS that are affected and cannot be repaired are located in vulnerable locations, so efforts are still being made to manage them.
Despite this, cellular operators are currently giving priority to strengthening the availability of telecommunications services in refugee areas to facilitate access to communication with external parties.
