The Ministry of Communications and Information said there are two remaining OTAs that have not registered as PSEs

Jakarta (MidLand) – Director General of Information Technology Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, said that there remain two online travel agencies (OTAs) that have not registered as electronic system operators (PSEs) .

“We just notified three (OTAs) yesterday, one has already registered, and we are waiting for two more,” Semuel said in Jakarta on Friday.

The two OTAs that have not registered as PSEs are Klook.com and Trivago.co.id.

Semuel explained that his party has given ten working days starting from Thursday (3/14) for the two OTAs to immediately register as PSEs in Indonesia.

If both do not register within the specified time limit, they will block them.

“Of course we will block it and there is not the slightest doubt in the Ministry of Communications and Information,” he said.

Earlier on Friday (8/3), the Ministry of Communication and Information issued a warning to foreign OTAs operating in Indonesia but who had not followed the rules to register their services as PSEs.

It was stated that there were six OTAs mentioned by the Ministry of Communication and Information, namely Booking.com, agoda.com, Airbnb.com, Klook.com, Trivago.co.id and Expedia.co.id.

More recently, Semuel clarified that there are only two OTAs left that have not registered as PSEs.

Airbnb itself said it will be registered as a PSE in Indonesia as of December 19, 2022.

“We would like to clarify that Airbnb has been registered as an electronic system operator (PSE) in Indonesia since December 19, 2022 and has complied with a circular from the Ministry of Communications and Information,” reads the official statement from Airbnb’s representative in Indonesia who was received from Antara, Friday.

The provisions for registering the OTA as a PSE are contained in the regulation of the Minister of Communications and IT number 10 of 2021 regarding amendments to the regulation of the Minister of Communications and IT number 5 of 2020 regarding operators of electronic systems of private sector (PM Kominfo 5/2020).

The PSE registration policy is basically a data collection mechanism for PSEs providing their services in Indonesia in order to build a safe and reliable Indonesian digital ecosystem.

Private sphere PSEs required to register are required to provide information regarding, among others, the identity of the organiser, the name of the electronic system, the official URL of the website, the type of personal data processed, the place of management or data processing.

Through registration the public can know which PSE provides services to them.
