To make it easier for families to recognize cutlery and toiletries for people affected by leprosy, these dishes are differentiated by color

Tanimbar Islands (MidLand) – Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini built a social granary to treat leprosy and mental disorders in Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku Province.

The Community Granary, which has been established at the Saumlaki Community Health Center in South Tanimbar District, is equipped with disaster management equipment as well as various needs for leprosy patients such as towels, soap, food supplies, vitamins, nutrition, basic necessities and various other needs.

The construction of the social barn is also aimed at strengthening the local community’s awareness of residents’ understanding of leprosy, such as the existence of leprosy patients who still use eating utensils and bathing utensils interchangeably with healthy members of the family.

“Indeed, toiletries and cutlery for leprosy patients should not be shared with other people to prevent infection,” Social Affairs Minister Risma confirmed to Tanimbar on Thursday.

To make it easier for families to recognize cutlery and toiletries for lepers, he said, these utensils are differentiated by color.

In addition to this, the Minister of Social Affairs also provided social farming of laying hens, so that their eggs could be used to strengthen the nutrition of 66 beneficiaries, including people with mental disorders (ODGJ) and people suffering from leprosy.

“The eggs are eaten, because what can break the chain of leprosy is the body’s immune system. We need to save our families who have not been affected,” he said.

The Minister of Social Affairs also suggested carrying out the treatment long recitationi.e. treatment with injections once a month for ODGJ, to make it easier for families caring for ODGJ so that they do not have to give medications every day that are at risk of not being taken.

“We have communicated with social services and health services to provide the injection treatment long recitation “once a month at the Community Health Center for people affected by ODGJ, so that it is easier and more effective to provide treatment”, said Minister of Social Policies Risma.
