The Minister of Communication and Information stressed that X must follow the rules relating to immoral content

Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi highlighted that the social media platform

One of the provisions in question is Article 27, paragraph 1, of Law number 1 of 2024, relating to the second amendment of Law number 11 of 2008 on electronic information and transactions.

“All X policies that conflict with other applicable rules or regulations will still receive sanctions, including blocking and/or fines,” Budi told MidLand on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Article 27 paragraph (1) of Law 1/2024 concerning the second amendment of the ITE Law reads: “Any person intentionally and without the right to transmit, perform, distribute, broadcast and/or make accessible electronic information and/or or electronic information Documents containing content that violates the decency of being known to the public.”

Therefore, X’s latest policy allowing uploading of immoral content by its users is definitely against the regulations in force in Indonesia.

X’s new policy regarding provisions for uploading immoral content began to be widely discussed after X updated information in its help center in late May 2024.

In its help center, X stated that adult content can be uploaded as long as it is produced and distributed consensually by the account owner.

For account holders who are under 18 and do not enter their birth data in their profile, X guarantees that it is not possible to access adult content on its platform.

However, allowing the distribution of adult content on a social media platform is still against current policies in Indonesia.

Therefore, Budi firmly stated that if

“We have a 1 to 3 alert mechanism. If we still don’t comply with the rules, we will block them,” Budi stressed.
