The Minister of Communication and Information responded to the proposal that foreign PJIs must attract local companies

Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said he will have further discussions with all parties, including industry associations and operators, regarding the proposal that foreign Internet service providers ( PJI) should collaborate with local PJIs.

The Indonesian Association of Internet Service Providers (APJII) suggests that foreign PJIs like Starlink need to attract local ISPs to operate in Indonesia.

“We are trying to make technological breakthroughs. The important thing is that as long as Starlink follows Indonesian regulations, we are good. The important thing is game level field-his Right (equal opportunities),” Budi said when meeting him on Wednesday at his official residence in South Jakarta.

When asked when to discuss with PJI industry players, Budi said the discussion would be held after the end of the Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri moment. Discussions were held in order to find the right solution to maintain the Internet service provider sector is in good health.

“By the way, after Eid we will finish. Let’s discuss it first, now before Eid,” Budi said.

Previously, the Indonesian Association of Internet Service Providers (APJII) assessed that foreign PJIs needed to attract local ISPs through collaboration if they wanted to operate in Indonesia to maintain the health of the industrial ecosystem.

This was reported by APJII General President Muhammad Arif who responded to the news that foreign ISPs such as Elon Musk’s Starlink were starting to enter, intending to market their products in Indonesia.

“From a business perspective, we need to consider the impact, especially on local ISPs who are APJII members. There are currently more than 1,000 local ISPs in Indonesia. So Starlink’s presence for us in the future will also require collaboration with ISPs local. ISP,” APJII President General Muhammad Arif said when contacted by MidLand on Wednesday.

Technology owned by foreign PJIs, such as the use of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, must be used to encourage equality and improve the quality of the Internet. Collaboration between foreign PJIs and local PJIs, for example in the field of product marketing, must be continued so that local industry players continue to exist and be healthy.
