The Minister of Communication and Information encourages the spread of inclusive narratives to prevent polarization

Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi encourages the spread of inclusive narratives to prevent potential polarization in society after the 2024 general elections (Pemilu).

“Inclusive narratives are therefore needed to engage all levels of society, without questioning certain contexts or groups,” he said in a press release on Friday (15/3).

Budi Arie said this after attending the national editorial meeting to discuss post-2024 election issues and developments, at the office of the Public Television Agency of the Republic of Indonesia in Central Jakarta, Thursday (3/14) .

He believes that the circulation of exclusive and provocative narratives can spark divisions in the diversity of Indonesian society.

For this reason Budi Arie encouraged the mass media to develop a counter-narrative full of political interests against the threat of intolerance.

“This is important so that the formation of the future government is not defined by the results of fraudulent elections,” he said.

Director General of Public Information and Communication at the Ministry of Information and Communication, Usman Kansong, added that there is currently a narrative that has the potential to trigger polarization because information regarding the elections is not being presented comprehensively.

According to him, there are still many media outlets that often produce incomplete statements when presenting news content.

Regarding the summary of voting results, Usman assessed that the General Election Commission (KPU) behaved according to the rules.

In fact, the process is done in an open manner so that the public can see the results directly via YouTube broadcasts.

“There is no need for the public to come to the KPU, because it was broadcast live on YouTube. So, earlier we received an explanation that the KPU was very transparent in the process of counting electoral votes. “I think there is no fraud voters in the vote counting process,” he said.

Therefore, Usman called on all parties to encourage reconciliation, especially among political elites such as legislative candidates.

“This reconciliation occurred among legislative candidates who felt their voices were being stolen by others. I think the best way out can be found. How good is it that standard rules already exist? “So let’s get back to the rules,” she concluded.
