We will simply remain on “standby”

The Labour Party crowd outside the General Election Commission (KPU) office dispersed in an orderly fashion around 13:00 WIB, following the approval by the KPU and DPR RI of the draft KPU (PKPU) Regulation Number 8 of 2024 on Nominations to Regionals. Heads welcoming the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).

As a result, traffic flow towards Jalan Imam Bonjol in Jakarta on Sunday slowly began to be overtaken by motor vehicles, although officers could still be seen standing guard around the Indonesian KPU building.

Labour Party Chairman Said Iqbal said his party would be ready if the PKPU suddenly changed.

“We’ll just be ‘standby.’ If anything goes wrong, we’ll go (demonstrate) again,” he said.

Said also said that his party appreciated all the parties that joined the PKPU.

“Yes, we are grateful to the KPU, DPR RI and the government who worked hard to listen to the aspirations, so that not a single sentence, word or semicolon was changed, in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court,” he said.

Therefore, he added, for the time being his party will not hold another demonstration until the decision on PKPU changes.

Previously, the DPR Commission II, together with the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia and the Cabinet, approved the KPU Regulation (PKPU) No. 8 of 2024 on the Appointment of Regional Heads, which upheld the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).

“DPR Commission II together with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Ministry of Internal Affairs, KPU of the Republic of Indonesia, Bawaslu of the Republic of Indonesia and DKPP of the Republic of Indonesia have approved the PKPU draft regarding the amendments to PKPU No. 8 of 2024 regarding the appointments of governor and vice governor, regent and vice regent, and mayor and deputy mayor. Thank God, we can agree,” said DPR Commission II Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia.

He stressed that the PKPU project number 8 of 2024 fully complied with the decisions of the Constitutional Court number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and number 70/PUU-XXII/2024.
