The host representative, Dejan/Gloria, stopped at the 8th All England
Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesian mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 All England Open after beating the home pair in the round of 16 today.
Dejan/Gloria won in back-to-back matches 21-17, 21-9 over mixed doubles Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith in 42 minutes, in the match which took place at the Ulilita Arena, Birmingham.
“After playing a rubber game in the first match, today we were able to play without a hitch. “Praise God for what we were able to show,” Gloria said in a brief PP PBSI statement Thursday.
Dejan/Gloria and Ellis/Smith were involved in a fierce battle, but the Indonesian pair maintained their lead midway through the match, before winning the first game.
“At first I was nervous, you could even say I didn’t play the first match,” Dejan said.

“But I believed that my partner could cover so after winning the first match, the tension gradually disappeared. “Finally in the second game I found the right rhythm,” he continued.
In the second gym, the 20th ranked mixed doubles in the world became more confident in dominating the competition with effective attacks.
“Our strategy was how to get attacks. After several shots I penetrated them, it seemed like they became more and more uncomfortable. That’s what we took advantage of,” Dejan said.
Dejan/Gloria will face Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong first in the semifinals of this tournament.
Of the five meetings with the world number one Chinese pair, Dejan/Gloria have never won a single match. But they are determined to give their all to win tomorrow’s match.
