Biak (MidLand) – The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) through the Papua-Maluku Regional Social Center VI in 2024 will prepare a vocational training package in the fisheries sector by producing fiber boats for indigenous Papuan people (OAP) in villages.
“The training package to make fiber boats is because it suits the natural potential of Biak Numfor,” the head of the VI Papua-Maluku Regional Social Centre, John H Maampioper in Biak, said on Wednesday.
He said his party also carried out a vocational training program for making fiber boats in 2023 in Asmat Regency, South Papua, in collaboration with the Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS).

For fiber boat building skills training in Asmat, his group sent 30 Asmat youth to ITS Surabaya.
“Yes, this program really touches the needs of OAPs residing in villages,” he said.
It is hoped that once the training package for building fiber boats has been completed, the skills and competences of young older people can be improved as preparation for entry into the world of work.
He hopes that young OAPs in the village will have entrepreneurial skills in making fiber boats.
