The goodwill of Jalur Rempah culture, KRI Dewaruci will stop in Melaka

Kuala Lumpur (MidLand) – The Spice Route Cultural Muhibah (MBJR) together with KRI Dewaruci will make a stop in Melaka on Sunday (30/6), in a bid to strengthen cultural connectivity between Indonesia and Malaysia.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) through the General Directorate of Culture (Ditjenbud) is organizing a cruise mission entitled “Spice Route Cultural Goodwill (MBJR) 2024” using the KRI Dewaruci.

Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid, in a press release received in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, said the cultural mission with the theme “The Spice Route and Malaysian Cultural Connectivity” was in collaboration with the Indonesian Navy and will stop in Malacca, Malaysia, from 30 June to 3 July 2024.

On the MBJR 2024 sea route, KRI Dewaruci, departed from Tanjung Priok Military Seaborne Command Port, Jakarta, on Friday (7/6) and stopped in several cities in Indonesia and is scheduled to return to Jakarta on July 17.

The cruise passes through points that have a strong historical and cultural narrative of the Spice Route. MBJR is a vehicle to reactivate the Spice Route, connect spice trading points and strengthen cultural connectivity between regions, especially Indonesia and Malaysia, Hilmar said.

According to him, the Spice Route shipping program perfectly reflects Indonesia’s rich history as a maritime country. The wealth of spices of the archipelago turns out to be able to unite the civilizations of various nations of the world.

“The Spice Route cultural goodwill mission also involves many participants from various provinces in Indonesia who will build cultural interactions with people in the places they visit,” Hilmar said.

This year’s Spice Route Cultural Goodwill initiative brings 50 people to each cruise route. A total of 25 participants known as Laskar Rempah were selected through an open call by the Ministry.

Besides that, participants with different backgrounds were also invited: journalists, writers, researchers, influencers, experts and cultural actors.

During this voyage, the KRI Dewaruci was manned by 87 Indonesian Navy personnel.

MBJR 2024 follows seven points of the Spice Route starting from Jakarta towards East Belitung, Dumai, Sabang, Melaka in Malaysia, Tanjung Uban, Lampung and ending in Jakarta.

The 150 participants were divided into three racing groups with three participating changeover points, namely Jakarta, Dumai and Tanjung Uban.

The mission of the Spice Route cruise aims to preserve and develop cultural heritage by engaging younger generations as agents of change through various activities.

While in Melaka, Malaysia, he said Laskar Rempah would take part in a series of events in the form of festivals based on spices and maritime culture, seminars and workshops.

The Jalur Rempah Festival will be held in front of the People’s Museum, Melaka from 30 June to 3 July 2024. As for the Jalur Rempah Cultural Goodwill Seminar, it will be held in the hall of the People’s Museum on 30 June 2024. .

Experts from Indonesia and Malaysia will be the keynote speakers at a seminar discussing connectivity and cultural cooperation between the two countries through the Spice Route. In addition to this, the KRI Dewaruci will also be open to the public while docked at Tanjung Bruas Port, Melaka.

The Spice Route Cultural Goodwill Cruise has been implemented since 2020 as part of the National Priority Program in the cultural sector.

In 2022, the Spice Route Cultural Goodwill Cruise will pass through Surabaya, Makassar, Baubau and Buton, Ternate and Tidore, Banda Naira, Kupang and return to Surabaya. Meanwhile, in 2023, the cruise will follow the Spice Route points in Surabaya and Selayar Islands.

The Spice Route Cultural Goodwill is a strategic effort to strengthen cultural diplomacy, both nationally and internationally, as well as to strengthen cultural resilience. The Spice Route connects the various cultures of the archipelago that today constitutes Indonesia.

The Spice Route connectivity between regions, globally, produces shared cultural heritage among nations which is a strong capital to strengthen diplomacy among nations. It is hoped that the cultural cruise mission can contribute to the revitalization of the Spice Route that aims at shared prosperity by prioritizing cultural riches as the main attraction, he said.
