The General Directorate of Public Relations expects traffic jams during the Christmas period

Jakarta (MidLand) – The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) through the General Directorate of Land Transport (Ditjen Hubdat) is taking a series of advance measures to accelerate road transportation for Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 (Nataru 2023/2024) .

As in previous years, the Ministry of Transport collaborated with related parties, such as the police, regional transport services, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), land transport associations and all related stakeholders .

“In dealing with this transportation in Nataru, we and related agencies are also taking preventive measures in case there is an increase in travel, causing traffic jams,” said the director of road traffic at the Ministry of Transport, Ahmad Yani, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

We have brought forward some policies that will be adopted and this collaboration was carried out with various subjects already two months ago. This is to ensure that transportation on Nataru runs smoothly, successfully and without significant problems

He also added that while his party mitigates areas of congestion such as toll roads, the most frequently occurring rest areas are areas to and from tourist destinations. For this, Hubdat General Management has collaborated with related parties to ensure that it remains safe, orderly and smooth.

Yani also explained that safety signs and warnings on routes leading to tourist spots will be implemented or installed in all tourist destinations. This avoids long traffic jams during the Christmas holidays.

“We invite people who will travel during the upcoming Christmas period to monitor the weather forecast. “Because it is expected that at the end of next year the weather will be a little less favorable, so we can take early measures or other travel alternatives,” he said. said.

Yani stressed that to ensure smooth traffic during the upcoming transportation to Nataru, his party is also coordinating with stakeholders. Not only with the police, her party also maintains contacts with Jasa Marga, Pertamina, Cipali Toll Road Management and other toll road operators.

He also stressed that in case of extreme weather conditions, the government will impose travel restrictions, particularly on inter-island crossing routes. And motorbike users undertaking the journey to Nataru need to take extra care.

“We remind motorbike users that it is better not to leave than never to arrive,” he concluded.

As is known, the Ministry of Transport through the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) has released the results of an online survey on the movement potential of communities during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays 2023/2024.

The community movement potential is expected to reach 107.63 million people, or 39.83% of the total national population.

This forecast represents an increase of 143.65% compared to the forecast for 2022 which reached 44.17 million people.
