The DPR I Commission stated that electronic transactions are an important topic in the ITE Law

Jakarta (MidLand) – Chairman of the Commission I DPR RI Meutya Hafid said that electronic transactions are one of the important topics discussed and included in the text of the bill (RUU) on the Second Amendment to the Law on Electronic Information and Transactions (UU ITE ). .

“So actually this bill does not only deal with sanctioning issues, but also safeguards the topic of digital transactions. In accordance with this law called the Electronic Information and Transactions Law,” Meutya said at the Nusantara II Building DPR RI, Central Jakarta, Wednesday. .

In addition to adapting the content to the name of the relevant regulations, the purpose of this topic on electronic transactions is also to respond to the growing number of fraud-related cases occurring in cyberspace.

In 2020 alone, the Republic of Indonesia Police recorded 7,047 reported digital fraud cases, most of which occurred via social media in very different ways.

Apart from social media, in 2021, the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) also recorded 535 cases reported by consumers, with details of 22.4% of complaints coming from loan consumers. on line (pinjol), especially regarding the billing methods and the existence of illegal loans. Additionally, 16.6% of complaints came from consumers shopping online. This data increased by 33% compared to the total complaints of the previous year, i.e. 2020.

In the research titled “Digital Fraud in Indonesia: Modes, Mediums and Recommendations”, published in 2022, it was also found that monetary losses were the biggest loss for victims of electronic fraud with a percentage of 15.2% of the 1700 respondents saying took part in the research.

Considering the high number of cases, the topic of electronic transactions has been further strengthened in the text of the bill for the second amendment of the ITE Law which will soon be discussed in the second level discussion of the Plenary Session of the RI Presidential Decree.

“There are many cases where the ITE law is not effectively used to crack down on electronic fraud, even if they are related. With the contribution of the RDPU (public hearing) that we conducted, we want to improve the digital ecosystem, especially for electronic transactions,” Meutya said.

Regarding the topic of electronic transactions, in the second bill amending the ITE Law improvements are made to the rules relating to this topic which are outlined in Article 17 of the text of the bill.
