Jakarta (MidLand) – Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria explained the parameters for success in adopting a smart city system.
“To be smart city There are several criteria that must be met, how? smart governance, smart branding, smart technology which is used as a parameter to see if a city is sufficient shrewd using technology,” he said on Monday, quoted in the ministry’s press release in Jakarta.
According to him, achieving these three parameters requires the support of digital connectivity, digital literacy and the use of digital technology.
In terms of digital connectivity, Nezar said, the government must provide the best telecom network.
According to him, telecommunications network coverage in Indonesia is currently quite good.
About 90% of Indonesia has reliable 2G and 4G communications networks, and 5G networks are already available in several large cities.
“The level of Internet penetration is also getting higher and higher, now there is more than 80% penetration across 287 million people,” Nezar said.
“I think we can certainly imagine such conditions information society they can grow and develop in a digital society ecosystem,” he added.

Nezar said people’s digital literacy is also an important factor in implementing a smart city system.
“The most important thing is how intelligent education made so that the community can better access technology. “For this reason, digital literacy education or digital literacy is needed so that we can use the flow of digital information in a positive way,” she explained.
The Ministry of Communication and Information has prepared digital talent development programs to create a society with good digital literacy in a bid to encourage the implementation of smart city systems.
Furthermore, the Ministry is carrying out programs to optimize the use of digital technology.
The Ministry of Communication and Information, among other things, presents a digital startup headquarters in Aceh as part of the 1,000 Digital Startups Programme, launched by the Ministry in 2016.
“This forum aims to accommodate the growth of the digital economy which is growing day by day along with the development of ICT,” Nezar said.
The digital startup headquarters in Aceh, Nezar said, supports the efforts of the Millennial generation and Generation Z who already have digital literacy to build local startups that can compete nationally and globally.

The government has implemented the Smart Cities Movement since 2017.
The movement was initiated by the Ministry of Communications and Information together with the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and the National Agency for Development Planning.
By early 2024, more than 250 Indonesian municipal and district governments will join the Smart City Development Network.
