The Central Sulawesi KPU is optimizing the role of the media during the 2024 election campaign
The campaign phases cannot be separated from the role of media friends.
Palu (MidLand) – The General Election Commission (KPU) of Central Sulawesi province has socialized the rules for the electoral campaign phases to optimize the role of the media in the area.
“The campaign phases will not be separated by the role of media friends. Therefore, we are carrying out this activity in order to equalize perceptions regarding the campaign phases from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024,” said Nisbah, KPU member of the Central Sulawesi province, in Palù, Tuesday.
Nisbah said the Central Sulawesi provincial KPU organized the event with the aim of optimizing the function and role of the media in supervising the stages of the 2024 election campaign.
This activity, he said, was an effort to equalize understanding with the media regarding campaign procedures or rules.
In this case, the KPU refers to Law number 7 of 2017 relating to general elections (UU Pemilu), Regulation of the General Election Commission (PKPU) number 15 of 2023 relating to general election campaigns as amended by PKPU number 20 of 2023 and to the KPU decree number 1621. of 2023 concerning the Technical Guidelines for the implementation of general election campaigns.
It was also emphasized that mass media campaigns should not be carried out outside the designated campaign period.
According to PKPU number 15 of 2023, permissible methods for campaigning include, among others, limited meetings, face-to-face, use of social media, advertising, general meetings and other things regulated in the PKPU.
Meanwhile, the maximum limit for the publication on radio and television of the electoral commercials of the participants in the elections is 10 commercials with a maximum duration of 30 seconds for each television station every day, and 10 commercials with a maximum duration of 60 seconds for each radio station. .
After the campaign is carried out, the next phase will be a quiet period from February 11 to 13, 2024, then the voting and counting schedule will be February 14, 2024.
Nisbah hopes that the media will be present and contribute by conveying accurate and balanced information about the elections to the public to create a democratic system with integrity, quality and dignity in the 2024 elections.
