The ADB-BPPW NTB team inspects the main IPAL municipal construction site in Mataram

Mataram (MidLand) – A team from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) together with the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) inspected the construction site of the Main Municipal Wastewater Management Plant (IPAL) in Bagek Kembar neighborhood, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara province.

West Nusa Tenggara BPPW chief Yanuar S Nugroho, who was met after checking the location in Mataram on Friday, said the location check was aimed at ensuring the availability of the land as a reference for holding the race for the construction of the municipal Main IPAL in the city of Mataram.

“Thank God, the land for the construction of municipal IPAL in Mataram city is ready and there are no problems,” he said.

This condition, he said, certainly gives the ADB the confidence to advance the program to the next phase. After checking the location, the next process will be to prepare the administrative and auction documentation.

According to him, the goal is that the auction for the construction of Municipal IPAL will be held by September 2024. Meanwhile, physical activities for the first phase will begin from 2025 to 2029 in several phases or multi-year.

“The tender for the Municipal IPAL project has been opened internationally, so it will take a long time,” he said.

Data from the Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning of Mataram City (PUPR) states that the total value of the municipal IPAL project which will be built on 3.5 hectares of land is around IDR 1.3 trillion, while for the first phase IDR 500 million was donated. These funds represent assistance from the World Bank through the central government.

According to Yanuar, Mataram city was chosen as the location for the construction of the main municipal IPAL due to the commitment of Mataram city in preparing the land, socialization to the community was carried out on a large scale so that there were no many disorders.

“Apart from that, the level of population density in Mataram city means that this program is feasible and suitable for city-scale implementation,” he said.

Yanuar said the positive impacts of the existence of this municipal IPAL include that the city of Mataram will have a good and safe sanitation system because it is processed in an integrated manner.

The sanitation facilities that the community currently has are only in the adequate category, so they need to be improved to be better and safer.

“Municipal waste, both domestic and business, including hotels, will be managed in an integrated manner according to established standards,” he said.

For the first phase, he said, when the municipal IPAL is completed and ready to operate in 2029, the community receiving the municipal IPAL connection will target 13,000 households in two sub-districts, namely Ampenan and Sekarbela sub-districts.

“So, in the future the community will no longer need to build special shelters. It is enough to connect to the main pipe of the Municipal IPAL,” he said.
