Study claims half of the world’s population suffers from mental disorders by the age of 75: Okezone techno
A search from The Lancet found that half of the world’s population had a mental disorder by the age of 75.
The research, conducted with the University of Queensland (UQ) and Harvard Medical School, found that depression and anxiety were the two most common disorders affecting 150,000 adults in 29 countries between 2001 and 2022.
The World Health Organization (WHO) previously revealed that there were nearly a billion people who had lived with mental disorders, and these statistics have worsened since the COVID-19 pandemic, where there has been an increase in the 25% of cases of depression and anxiety during the first year of the pandemic in 2019.
From this study, women generally experience the three most common mental disorders including depression, phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), while the three most common disorders in men are alcohol abuse, depression, and a sort of specific phobia.
For adolescents, recent studies suggest that age 15 is the peak age for onset of mental disorders. Things like anxiety, depression and substance abuse are the most common problems among young people. Ironically, half of adolescents suffering from mental disorders will be affected by the age of 19.
