Student bullying goes viral, PPDI South Sulawesi calls for evaluation of inclusive education
Makassar (MidLand) – President of the Indonesian Association of Persons with Disabilities (PPDI) South Sulawesi, Falupy Mahmud, called on all parties to evaluate the education system so that it can be more inclusive in response to the viral video of alleged bullying towards students with disabilities at SMPN 4 Makassar.
“This incident forms the basis for all of us, including the Department of Education, to improve the education system to be more inclusive,” Falupy said in Makassar on Saturday.
He believes that this case shows that there is an education system that is not functioning as it should, including the anti-bullying in schools task force that deals with the development and education of students in educational institutions.
“Because they (the Task Force) didn’t know about this incident from the beginning, they only learned about it when it went viral on social media, then it went viral. It should have been resolved at the school level, there was no need to spread it everywhere “, he said.
PPDI South Sulawesi calls on schools to implement greater supervision through intra-school organizations such as OSIS, PMR, Scout and other internal and external organizations.
“The role of school organizations must be even stronger, on how to educate male and female students as agents of equality. How they educate to let us know that we are all equal, and the same goes for schools,” he suggested.
He also called on various related parties to discuss the technical issues related to the accident again so that similar accidents do not happen again.
“Problems like this will continue to occur if we do not break the chain. Therefore, we invite the school to discuss technical issues in building an inclusive or equal education system”, hoped Falupy.

Separately, the head of the Makassar City Education Service, Muhyiddni, said that this case was clarified with the school, the parents of each student who were accompanied by the administrators of the South Sulawesi PPID, the Education Service Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A) and Makassar Social Service and Police.
“We made it clear that the school was not aware of this incident. It was only discovered after it went viral. After clarifying what happened last month, the conclusion is that this child should not be absent from school, this is our commitment. Next it will be evaluated,” he explained.
Due to this incident, considering that this child had extraordinary ability and achievement, he was later appointed as a school ambassador for SMPN 4. Besides that, he solved the problem by coordinating with related parties.
“We are working together to coordinate with DP3A so that this child is not traumatized. This child might be normal, but since it went viral, he was traumatized. Our police also coordinated well,” he added.
