South Tangerang temperature reaches 39.4 degrees Celsius, researchers reveal several factors

TIME.CO, Jakarta – Council of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) released temperature daily maximum in Indonesia with a duration from October 16, 2023 at 07:00 WIB to October 17, 2023 at 07:00 WIB. The highest or hottest point was detected at the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Region II with a temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius.

Next, Kertajati Weather Station (39 degrees Celsius), Mutiara Sis Al-Jufri Weather Station (38 degrees Celsius), Banten Climate Station and South Sulawesi Climate Station (37.9 degrees Celsius). For your information, MKG Region II Center is located in East Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten.

Didi Satiadi, Researcher at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center, National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN), reveals various factors that will cause temperatures in the South Tangerang region to reach 39.4°C on 16 October 2023.

“The main factor is the heating of the surface and the air above it by solar radiation, which reaches its peak at midday around 2pm local time,” he explained in a short message on Wednesday 18 October 2023.

Furthermore, at this time the apparent position of the sun is at a latitude that coincides with the position around the island of Java. Besides that, the position of the sun is perpendicular above the island of Java, so the solar radiation is maximum.

Another factor is dry air conditions and minimal clouds, which cause most of the solar energy to reach the Earth’s surface directly without obstruction. Furthermore, currently Indonesia, especially in the southern part, is experiencing a drier than usual dry season due to the El-Nino phenomenon which occurs at the same time as the positive IOD phenomenon.

“When these two phenomena occur simultaneously, the clouds tend to be attracted towards the eastern Pacific Ocean and western Indian Ocean, so that the Indonesian maritime continent tends to be dry,” Didi said.

Announcement

Meanwhile, BRIN’s Sadewa data shows that conditions were dry over northern parts of West Java and Banten, parts of Lampung and northern parts of East Java at that time. The relative humidity in the Tangerang area at 14.00 WIB was only around 30%.

During the day there is a convergence of winds in the area around Tangerang which has high pressure so temperatures tend to increase in this area. Furthermore, the impact of global warming and climate change is currently increasing.

July 2023 is the hottest month on record so far. In general, this certainly contributes to the current increase in temperature.

Didi also explained that the apparent position of the sun will continue to move southward until it reaches its southernmost position in December 2023, simultaneously with the peak of the rainy season, so the daily maximum temperature on Java island is expected to continue declining .

Subsequently, the apparent position of the sun will move north again and will return to being over the island of Java around March 2024.

There are many factors that influence the temperature of a place. For example, the presence of more water vapor can encourage convection processes and cloud growth that can reduce solar radiation reaching the Earth’s surface and also spread heat into the upper atmosphere and other locations.
