Soul Machines creates digital Marilyn Monroe with artificial intelligence
Jakarta (MidLand) – Soul Machines, the company behind the AI-based “digital human”, launched its partnership with Authentic Brands Group for Digital Marilyn Monroe on Friday (8/3).
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s page, Authentic acquired Monroe’s intellectual property in 2011 after it was sold by Anna Strasberg, wife of Monroe’s late acting teacher, Lee Strasberg. Monroe had left most of his assets to Lee in his will.
Digital Marilyn is said to offer the opportunity to interact with fans in real time using advanced natural language processing, deep learning and GPT 3.5. She responded with Marilyn’s voice and affection, sharing anecdotes of the late star and even offering personalized greetings.

“This collaboration shows the transformative power of AI in connecting brands and consumers. Digital Marilyn features our biological AI, bringing iconic personalities to life through engaging dialogue and emotional intelligence. This is more than just nostalgia; it’s a glimpse to the future of immersive interactions,” Soul Machines co-founder and CEO Greg Cross said in a statement.
Digital Marilyn’s exclusive first look was shown at SXSW in Austin, Texas on the same day as her announcement.
Executive Vice President, Entertainment, at Authentic Brands Group, Dana Carpenter, said Marilyn Monroe remains an enduring icon, inspiring generations with her talent, charisma and lasting legacy.
“We are thrilled to partner with Soul Machines, whose cutting-edge technology is perfect for bringing Marilyn to life in the age of artificial intelligence. “While Marilyn Monroe can never be replaced or duplicated, Digital Marilyn opens up the exciting possibility for generations of fans to interact with her in an entirely new way, cultivating a deeper connection and appreciation for her enduring spirit and imprint that he left in the world,” Carpenter said.
Soul Machines, founded in 2016 by Cross and Mark Sagar, has previously created digital celebrities including Carmelo Anthony, Jack Nicklaus, Mark Tuan and Francis Ngannou.
Due to this news, several social media users criticized this development.
Artificial intelligence and its role in the entertainment industry became a hot topic during last year’s dual actor-writer strike. Although the union negotiated a deal aimed at protecting its members from the technology, OpenAI’s Sora recently sparked new fears.
The Sam Altman-led company’s technology, launched last month, is capable of producing high-quality video of complex scenes.
