Soft tennis athletes: it is important to train together outside of matches
Banda Aceh (MidLand) – Senior soft tennis player Dwi Rahayu Pitri has stressed the importance for soft tennis players to train together outside of matches.
He emphasized this because the Indonesian soft tennis athletes did not return to training together after the match, so they had to adapt again when training before competing.
“The development of soft tennis in Indonesia is quite increasing, but if it ends training camp, players disperse. “We will not train together again,” he said Monday when he was confirmed in Banda Aceh.
Dwi, who won a bronze medal in the women’s doubles final on Sunday (15/9) with Beatrice Chandra, gave an example of soft tennis doubles athletes from the Philippines and Thailand who continued to train together after the match was over, so that they could maintain chemistry who woke up.
“For us (Indonesian athletes), we separate after the game. Everything just scattered. “So it’s hard to rebuild that cohesion,” he said.
Additionally, he continued, there is a pre-match selection, so athletes have to re-adapt to working with new partners.
“We have to start from scratch. “Unfortunately, that’s all,” he said.
Therefore, according to him, joint training should continue after the competition to maintain cohesion on the pitch.
However, the athlete, who has been playing soft tennis since 2010, still appreciates the development of this Japanese sport in Indonesia. This year, soft tennis will be competed for the first time at the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024.
“There’s a big improvement from when I first started playing,” he said.
It is known that soft tennis is a sport that started in Japan in 1884. General Chairman of the Central Management (PP) of the Indonesian Soft Tennis Association (Pesti) Brigadier General Pol. Initially, Chaeruddin explained that there is a difference between soft tennis and general court tennis.
The main difference that stands out the most is in the rackets and balls used. Soft tennis rackets are smaller and not yet sold as widely as in Indonesia. In addition, the ball in soft tennis is also softer and has a lower bounce than a regular tennis ball.
Aside from the equipment, soft tennis also has a different scoring system than tennis. In soft tennis the game numbers used are 1-2-3-4.
“Soft tennis matches are shorter. In men’s and women’s singles there are only four matches, while in tennis they use best of three sets“, Awal said.
