Situbondo Prosecutor’s Office Names Former Village Chief Suspected of Corruption of Village Funds

Situbondo (MidLand) – Special criminal investigators from the district prosecutor’s office in Situbondo, East Java, have named a former village head as a suspect in a case of alleged corruption in the misuse of village funds for the 2019 fiscal year and causing financial losses to the state of 287 million rupees.

The head of the Special Crimes Section at the Situbondo District Prosecutor’s Office, Ferry Hari Ardianto, explained that the suspect named Akhmat, the former head of Wringinanom village, Panarukan District, was suspected of reducing the volume of materials in a development project using the Village 2019 Fund in the local village.

“We made the arrests because we were worried that the suspect would run away and lose the evidence,” he told reporters in Situbondo, East Java, on Monday.

Ferry said that during the initial examination of the suspect, he received a report in 2023 regarding state losses related to the alleged misuse of village funds of approximately IDR 275 million.

However, he continued, after investigators from the Prosecutor’s Office carried out another check, it was discovered that the state’s losses were higher, namely more than IDR 287 million.

“The person concerned has been charged under the Corruption Crime Act. The maximum prison sentence is 15 years in prison,” Ferry said.

To take responsibility for his actions, the former village head was immediately thrown into the Situbondo (Rutan) class IIB state detention center.

According to information obtained by MidLand, the Situbondo District Attorney’s Office also summoned and secretly interrogated several health service employees and community health center employees regarding the purchase of anthropometric medical equipment with a budget value of up to billions rupees.

So far, the Situbondo District Attorney’s Office has not provided official information on the summons of several health service employees. The procurement of medical equipment to measure the nutritional status or anthropometry of children is targeted for changes to the 2023 APBD.
