Samsung launches Galaxy S23 and Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition for the military
TIME.CO, Jakarta – SAMSUNG has expanded its portfolio of Tactical Edition devices with two new phones, Galaxy S23 Dan tactical edition Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition.
This is a rugged smartphone aimed at military personnel and others with a similar professional profile. Both smartphones have the same specifications as the standard version, but are equipped with additional features that make them suitable for use in tactical environments.
The Galaxy Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition is IP68 rated and comes in a military-grade casing that can be mounted on the chest or worn on the forearm.
Both smartphones also feature a night vision mode to accommodate use with optical night vision devices. Additionally, they have auto-touch sensitivity that allows users to use the phone with gloves, while the auto-rotate lock screen makes it easy to use with a flip-up case.
Both phones also support external GPS for accurate location data from the field and can also connect to drone feeds and laser rangefinders to increase mission effectiveness.
The communication capabilities of the two devices are slightly different from the normal version. There are drivers created specifically to support radio protocols and tactical mission devices, but they still support conventional cellular capabilities, including LTE, CBRS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
There is also a stealth mode that disables LTE and E-911, turning off all RF transmissions – including GPS – at the hardware level, allowing operators to have truly off-the-grid communications. The lighting can also be turned on and off on the device while wearing the night vision device to remain less visible.

Cybersecurity matters are handled by Samsung Knox with hardware-level encryption. There is also KNOX dual data at rest (dualdar) which protects confidential data by providing two levels of encryption even when the smartphone is turned off. Additionally, S23 and Xcover6 Pro Tactical Edition support serverless license activation, facilitating flexible deployment in different operator environments.
The operating systems running are Android 13, based on UI 5.1 out of the box with Android Team Awareness Kit (Atak) and a battlefield trauma aid deployed as an observation kit (Batdok). ATAK improves real-time situational awareness for providers through mapping, messaging and geo-fencing, while Batdok collects and disseminates real-time patient encounter information.
Both smartphones support Samsung Dex and dual VPN chain. Users can also automatically receive and record calls in speaker mode and prevent outgoing calls if they wish.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the Samsung Galaxy Xcover6 Pro Tactical Edition has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
So far the price of this smartphone is not known because it is not intended for general buyers and will only be sold to military operators.
