Sam Altman returns to OpenAI’s board of directors

Jakarta (MidLand) – OpenAI announced that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has returned to the company’s board of directors after being fired on November 17, 2023.

Reporting from Tech Crunch on Saturday, Altman was joined by three new board members, namely former Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former Sony Entertainment president Nicole Seligman and CEO by Instacart Fidji Simo.

There are thus eight members of the OpenAI board of directors.

Altman and three other new members will join existing members of the board, namely Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor as head of the board, Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, and economic expert and former president of the University of Harvard Larry Summers.

Additionally, Microsoft appointee Dee Templeton remains on the board as an auditor.

“Sue, Fidji and Nicole have experience leading global organizations and navigating complex regulatory environments, as well as backgrounds in technology, nonprofit and board governance,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post .

“They will work closely with current board members Adam D’Angelo, Larry Summers and Bret Taylor, as well as Sam and OpenAI senior management,” the statement continues.

In addition to the appointment of new board members, OpenAI announced that it will adopt new corporate governance guidelines.

This includes strengthening policies regarding conflicts of interest, creating a complaints service that serves as a reporting platform for all OpenAI employees and contractors, and establishing additional committees, including a mission and strategy committee focused on implementation and advancement of OpenAI’s core mission.
