Banjarmasin (MidLand) – The South Kalimantan Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center (South Kalimantan Quarantine) inspected 10,380 livestock that entered South Kalimantan in May 2024.
“As we approach Eid al-Adha, there is an increase in livestock trafficking in South Kalimantan,” Isrokal, chair of the working group on animal quarantine at the South Kalimantan Quarantine in Banjarmasin, said on Saturday.
Based on data from the quarantine automation system (IQfast-ed) in May 2024, the entry of 5,023 cattle and 5,357 goats was recorded.
This number is the highest compared to the previous months of 2024, when the highest number was 3,136 individuals.
Isrokal said quarantine officers are always ready to ensure compliance with livestock traffic requirements.
The requirements referred to include being accompanied by negative laboratory test results for PMK, brucellosis, LSD and anthrax, having undergone a 14-28 day quarantine period in the area of origin, having identification tags and having been cared for in the area of origin. form of spraying disinfectant liquid on animals and their transport equipment.
“Quarantine has an important role in monitoring the movements of livestock to ensure they are healthy and free from diseases and other quarantine animal parasites,” he explained.
