MidLand, Jakarta – Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) reveals the increasing phenomenon earthquake avalanches and tremors Semeru Mountain caused by a magma source at a depth of six kilometers in the body of the volcano.
“What has happened now is that in the last few months or even weeks earthquakes have occurred, there is a source of magma at a depth of six kilometers,” PVMBG head Hendra Gunawan said at a monitored press conference on Friday in Jakarta .
Hendra said the phenomenon of warm clouds up to 1,500 meters that occurred on February 9, 2024, plus the parameters that were all positive, indicated that Mount Semeru was not well.
He asked the public to predict whether warm clouds could reach long distances. “People around Mount Semeru, especially towards the Kobokan River, need to continue to be vigilant following developments,” Hendra said.
He further said that the latest technology currently used by PVMBG allows his group to identify the depth and depth of recorded earthquakes, as well as potential hazards that need to be anticipated in the future.
