PUPR Minister: 10th WWF establishes “center of excellence” in Yogyakarta

Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed that the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) event will be held in Bali in May center of excellence for water and climate security in Yogyakarta.

“There are several concrete resultFirst we train center of excellence from water resources which is in Yogyakarta,” Basuki said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He added that the 10th WWF Bali event was an important moment for the training center of excellence in Yogyakarta, where it will play a role in South-South Cooperation.

“So we train later (training) South-South countries such as Fiji, Vanuatu and other countries in the Pacific region,” he said.

Apart from the training center of excellenceBasuki also revealed that there were several water-related projects by different countries that would be signed later also during the 10th WWF in Bali.

Through the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), the Indonesian Government is committed to encouraging countries and stakeholders around the world to put water issues at the top of the global agenda.

It is hoped that the 10th World Water Forum can become a decision-making platform to place water issues as a top priority globally, so that we can all provide better water quality for a better quality of life for our communities in the future.

The Indonesian government hopes that the holding of the 10th World Water Forum will not be limited to producing documents or statements, but will also be able to respond to global water challenges and create equitable access to clean water in every country.

The 10th World Water Forum focused on discussing four themes, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation.

Its implementation consists of three components, namely the thematic process, the regional process and the political process.

A political process is needed to integrate the results of scientific discussions in forums so that policies can be implemented in society. Therefore, Indonesia invites state leaders and related officials to jointly discuss and find solutions to water problems.

A total of 244 sessions of the forum are expected to provide concrete results regarding the integration of integrated water management for small islands, the training of center of excellence for water and climate security, water-related projects and the establishment of World Lakes Day.

The Indonesian government has invited 43 ambassadors and 4 international organizations to participate and make a success of the 10th World Water Forum to be held in Bali from 18 to 25 May 2024.
