President Jokowi arrived in Jakarta after attending the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit
Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Indonesian Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Wednesday around 7pm WIB, after attending the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit (Summit) in Melbourne, Australia.
Information from the press office of the Presidential Secretariat, received on Wednesday in Jakarta, informs that President Jokowi’s arrival was welcomed by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and acting. Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
Previously, the Head of State and his entourage took off on the Indonesian presidential plane-1 from Melbourne Jet Base airport, Australia, at around 4.15pm local time.
While attending the summit, President Jokowi highlighted the importance of cooperation between ASEAN and Australia in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the partnership between the two sides in 2024.
Speaking at the plenary session of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne on Wednesday, Jokowi said ASEAN and Australia share a common responsibility to maintain stability, peace and prosperity in the region.
President Jokowi said that ASEAN is expected to become a global economic power and rank fourth in the world by 2040.
With a population of more than 650 million people, the majority of whom are young workers with high technological literacy, Jokowi highlighted the importance of Australia’s support to maximize this potential.
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called on the leaders of ASEAN member countries to transform the natural relationship established over 50 years of partnership into greater practical cooperation.
The Albanian Prime Minister said that as Australia hosted the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, the celebration of 50 years of friendship between Australia and ASEAN was an opportunity to celebrate success, as well as affirm confidence in the centrality of ‘ASEAN.
