PLN connects electricity to 375 homes on Nias Islands with PMN at 3T
Now our village is free from darkness and has experienced extraordinary benefits from the presence of electricity.
Medan (MidLand) – PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) North Sumatra (Sumut) has connected electricity to 375 houses, six places of worship and two schools on Nias Islands with State Capital Participation (PMN) for disadvantaged areas, of frontier and outermost regions (Q3) in 2023.
“PLN is committed to providing the best service to the community throughout North Sumatra, especially in the Nias Islands,” said PLN North Sumatra Main Distribution Unit (UID) general manager Saleh Siswanto in Medan on Saturday (9/3).
For this achievement, Saleh stressed that the PLN is grateful for the government’s support in providing funds to the PMN to build infrastructure and distribute electricity in remote areas, so that it can realize equitable energy.
With the PMN, PLN also built a medium voltage network (JTM) along 3,550 circuit kilometers, a low voltage network (JTR) along 5,890 circuit kilometers, three distribution transformers and 145 poles on the Nias Islands.
In total, in 2023, thanks to government support through PMN, PLN UID North Sumatra will be able to electrify 66 villages and 85 hamlets with PMN.
In the same period, PLN UID North Sumatra built a medium voltage network of 84,633 circuit kilometers (km), a low voltage network of 113,947 circuit kilometers (km) and 51 distribution substations with a total installed capacity of 3,050 kilovolts amperes (kVA).
PLN and the Ministry of Finance also regularly monitor the implementation of the village electricity program.
Most recently, on March 5-6, 2024, the Separate Directorate of State Assets DJKN, Ministry of Finance, together with PLN, inspected electricity locations in several villages in the Nias Islands.
The head of Tuhemberua village, one of the villages whose electricity is assisted by the PMN, Erwin Jaya Gulo, said their village previously used generators and solar panels to obtain electricity.
These devices make electricity costs high, so much so that people choose not to use electricity at night.
“Now our village is free from darkness and has experienced tremendous benefits from the presence of electricity. We would like to thank PLN for implementing the government program in our village,” Erwin said.
