NGO: To implement equality requires the commitment of all parties involved in the company
Educate male workers to make good use of parental leave
Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE) Executive Director Wita Krisanti said implementing equality in the workplace requires commitment from senior leadership down to the lowest level of a company.
“This requires commitment from top management. So don’t just let the HR (Human Resources) department be told to do tasks A, B, C, but there is no commitment from the top,” Wita said Krisanti in discussion event “Treatment of Work Social Experiments” in Jakarta, Thursday.
According to Wita Krisanti, for example, there are many forms of support that companies can provide to their workers parental leave for women and men.
“Three or four months of leave for female workers, while for men many companies have started to implement more than the minimum leave,” said Wita Krisanti.

On the other hand, companies are also encouraged to provide education to male workers to benefit them parental leave good for supporting his wife who has just given birth and for establishing an emotional bond with his children.
“Understand what male workers should do upon retirement parental leaveDon’t spend to play games or touring,” he said.
So companies can also provide flexible working arrangements for male and female workers.
“When men adopt these flexible working arrangements, ask permission to arrive late, take half a day off because they have to take their pregnant wife to the doctor, pick up their children or attend their concerts, these are also efforts that must be achievements appreciated,” said Wita Krisanti.
However, his party does not deny that there are still dissenting voices against workers accepting flexible working arrangements.
“I’m there often jokes which is actually not funny, like wife, where are you going?’” he said.
Therefore, the offer of flexible work organization structures must also be accompanied by changes in the work culture in the company.
