The city government (Pemkot) of Cirebon, West Java, is starting to focus on developing “sports tourism” to promote the tourism sector and attract more tourists to visit the city.
“We support sports tourism“, because this way we can increase tourism in Cirebon and its surroundings,” Cirebon Acting Mayor Agus Mulyadi said in Cirebon on Sunday.
Explains sports tourism it is a sporting activity carried out to raise awareness of tourism, or to promote interesting destinations in the area hosting the event.
According to him, an example of the application of this concept can be seen in the cycling event entitled “Cycling de Jabar 2024”.
In this event, Agus said, more than a hundred participants gathered in Cirebon City and began their journey to conquer a 213km route with the ending point in Pangandaran.
“Yesterday the third round went smoothly, Cirebon City was considered the starting point. “Big events like this have a big impact on the economy,” he said.
He confirmed that Cirebon City will be the host or starting location for participants in the bike racing event in 2025.
Agus said that through this activity his group could promote various unique things in the city of Cirebon to participants, such as introducing historical tourist destinations and various culinary specialties.
In addition to this, his party guarantees that Cirebon City already has adequate facilities to carry out the event sports tourism.
“We have discussed this with the interim governor, next year the route will be Cirebon-Jatiluhur. In addition to the cycling races, a 10 km running race will take place on July 14, 2024. “The latest information says that they have registered 5,000 participants,” he said.
Agus added that Cirebon City’s economy depends heavily on the trade and service sector. Including the tourism sector.
Therefore, the Municipality of Cirebon is trying to increase tourist presences by 2024. Because in 2023 the realization will be recorded at 3.5 million tourists.
