Mount Ibu has erupted twice as of Saturday night

Jakarta (MidLand) – Mount Ibu in West Halmahera regency, north of the Moluccas, suffered two eruptions with ash columns about 1,200 and 2,000 meters above the peak of the active volcano on Saturday night.

In a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, received in Jakarta on Saturday, it is stated that the first eruption lasted about 3 minutes and 19 seconds, recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm.

So, the second eruption tends to be faster
with a duration of 2 minutes and 40 seconds and was recorded on the seismograph of the Mount Ibu observation post with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm.

​​​Mount Ibu observation post officer Gradita Trihadi said the two eruptions which occurred at 9.30pm WIT and 11.07pm WIT created clouds of gray volcanic ash with a strong intensity tilted towards the northwest.

Mount Ibu is currently still in alert or level III status.

The public is therefore advised not to carry out any activity within a four kilometer radius and five kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of the active crater of Mount Ibu.

If ash falls, people who are outside are advised to use mouth and nose protection such as masks and goggles.

Mount Ibu which has an elevation of 3,325
meters above sea level is a volcano located in the northwestern part of the island of Halmahera, or one of the five still active volcanoes in the North Moluccas.

PVMBG visually and instrumentally monitors the mountain from an observation post located in Gam Ici village, Ibu district, West Halmahera, North Moluccas.
