MidLand, Lampung South – Mount Anak Krakatau which is in the water Sunda StraitSouthern Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, rear eruption Monday evening, November 27, 2023, at 8:38 PM WIB, with an ash column height observed at approximately 300 meters above the summit or approximately 457 meters above sea level.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 65 millimeters and a duration of approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds. The ash column was observed to be gray to black in color with strong intensity towards the northwest.
The head of Mount Anak Krakatau monitoring post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, Southern Lampung, Andi Suardi, said the closest settlement to Mount Anak Krakatau is located on Sebesi Island, 16.5 kilometers away .
Andi appealed to the public and fishermen not to approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area within a five kilometer radius. “Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at level III, on alert, with recommendations from the public, fishermen and climbers not to approach the mountain within a five kilometer radius,” Andi Suardi said as quoted by Antara, Monday.
One of the residents of Sebesi Island village, near Mount Anak Krakatau Angga, said he and local residents felt panicked at the sound of the boom from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. “Earlier, around 8pm WIB, another booming sound was heard from Mount Anak Krakatau,” Angga said.
