Mortgage to pay for university, Ministry of Education and Culture: no one should abandon university due to financial problems
MidLand, Jakarta – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology or Kemendikbudristek has reminded State Universities (PTNs) to provide inclusive and quality higher education for every student. This was stated by Plt. Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education and Culture, Nizam, following the virality of the collaboration of Bandung Institute of Technology or ITB campus with an online lending company or High pay students’ tuition fees.
“No child should be prevented from continuing education solely for economic reasons,” said Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology Nizam
Nizam said the government, through the Ministry of Education and Culture, has provided support in the form of Smart Indonesia Card or KIP Kuliah, the number and targets of which increase every year.
“KIP College budget for 2023 of 11.7 trillion was allocated to 893,005 students, while for 2024, 13.1 trillion was allocated to 964,946 students,” Nizam said.
Nizam admitted that support through KIP Kuliah certainly cannot cover everything. So the Ministry of Education and Culture hopes that campuses can help students in need of funding through mutual cooperation between all parties.

Nizam also reminded PTN to find a solution for students for a financing program that is safe for students from debt bondage.
“We ask that the campus find a financing solution that is good, safe and does not exacerbate students’ economic problems, as well as protect students from debt slavery,” he said.
